Description

The complex comprises 18th and 19th century buildings arranged around a courtyard, with a detached block to the northwest. The structures are primarily rubble-built with ashlar dressings, mostly whitewashed, and have slate roofs.

The west range has a doorway dated 1732 with a chamfer-margined lintel, though it has been extended to the south and linked to further ranges to the north and west, including a sawmill, during the late 18th and mid-19th centuries. A tall loft storey sits below the eaves, while the ground floor is built into a bank along the western long wall (the rear). An archway leads to the courtyard, and there is a series of square loft openings.

The east range, built in the early 19th century, has two levels below the eaves. Two three-bay houses were formed from the steading at the northern end in the late 19th century, with gabled attic windows breaking through the eaves. An archway is located at the southern end, and a doorway has two doors.

The north range, also dating from the earlier 19th century, is adjacent to the east range and of similar height. A gate lintel spans a narrow gap, linking it to the west range. It includes an implement shed with five lintelled bays, approximately 10 feet high, and is built against a bank to the south.

The detached block, possibly a hay barn, is rectangular in plan, with six bays by two, and a piended roof supported on red ashlar piers. The openings are mostly louvered, with fireclay ventilators on the flank facing the roadside.
