Description
18 Laurieknowe in Dumfries is a manse built in the later 19th century, featuring Gothic detailing. The building has two storeys and two bays. Tall octagonal gatepiers stand on either side of the original approach to both the church and the manse.
The manse is constructed of snecked bull-faced red ashlar with polished dressings and has arched window heads. It features an advanced gable on the right side with a canted window on the ground floor, and an upper window on the left with a pedimented dormer head. The door is centrally located in the three-bay northeast flank. The roof has saw-toothed skews with gabletted skewputts, end stacks, and is covered with slate.
The gatepiers consist of two large piers made of polished ashlar, accompanied by a low garden retaining wall with cast-iron railings. There are wrought-iron gates and an overthrow that serve as a war memorial.
