D J and H Newall of Dalbeattie, sculptors; monument erected

1864 (inscription) on site of old market cross; commemorates

Sanquhar declaration of 1680 and Sanquhar protestation of

  1. Plain obelisk on broader, battered, stepped and

pedimented square base, all raised on bullfaced plinth. White

granite, with inscription panels.
