Description
The building at 104-106 High Street in Sanquhar is a library dating from the earlier to mid-19th century. It stands two storeys tall with a basement at the rear and features five bays, arranged as three on the left and two on the right. There is a tall square-headed vehicle pend on the right side, paved with cobbles. The structure is constructed of ashlar stone and has projecting cills.
The library door is flanked by deep windows, while the right bay contains a house door and a window. All first-floor windows are sash style. The building has end stacks, although one has been replaced with a thin brick flue. The roof is slate, and there is a conical-roofed stair turret at the rear. Additionally, there is a low range of outbuildings next to the pend, built from re-used stonework, possibly sourced from Sanquhar Castle.
