Council Offices, 102 High Street, Sanquhar

The Council Offices at 100 High Street in Sanquhar date from the earlier 19th century and are two storeys tall with five asymmetrical bays (three on one side and two on the other). The building is constructed of polished grey ashlar, featuring channelled stonework at the ground level and rusticated detailing over the square-headed openings. The main doorway is off-centre and framed by an architrave with a consoled cornice, leading to a recessed door topped with a round-arched fanlight. There is one additional door, and all the windows are 12-pane sashes, with one window on the first floor being blind. The upper windows are set within architraves that have a string course at the cill level. The building has an eaves course, a cornice, straight skews, and a slate roof that slopes lower on the left side. There are also some bronze plaques on the wall, along with a barometer presented in 1863, which is set in a round-arched panel to the right.
