Cala, 4 Wellington Buildings, Carsethorn

Cala, a group of five houses with a shop, dates from around 1815. The buildings form a row at 4 Wellington Buildings, Carsethorn, including the Lochinvar shop. Each house originally had three bays with a central doorway; one house has been subdivided, adding an additional door. The end houses feature a small, piended bay, whilst No.2 is harled, with the remainder of the buildings constructed of rubble with ashlar margins, some limewashed or painted. The ashlar margins include rusticated quoins, a sill band to the first floor, an eaves band, and lintel bands. The outer doors of each house are protected by a porch, and the other doors are topped with fanlights, two of which are decorative. Most windows are small-paned sash windows. The roofs are largely slated (with some tiled sections), featuring straight skews and corniced end stacks. A garden area lies in front of the houses, enclosed by rubble-built walls.
