Description

12-14 Castle Street in Stranraer is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic and a three-bay near-rectangular plan. The ground floor features a shopfront that dates from the earlier to mid-20th century. The entrance elevation is rendered, while the sides are constructed of sandstone rubble. The building has a deep base course, an eaves course, and moulded surrounds on the first-floor windows.

On the entrance elevation, there is a recessed timber and glass door in the center, flanked by shop windows. To the outer right, there is a recessed entrance with a fanlight above. A mosaic tile fascia separates the ground and first floors. The first floor has regular fenestration, and there are two segmental-pedimented dormers in the attic.

The ground floor features shop windows, while the first floor has plate glass timber sash and case windows, and the attic contains four-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has corniced gablehead stacks.

Inside, the original timber shopfront display and lettering remain, along with an interior fascia that reads "Wedding, Christening & Birthday Cakes A Specialite."
