Description

The Parish Manse in Churchgate, Moffat, was designed by John Starforth and is dated 1885. This two-storey building has an asymmetrical layout and features Gothic architectural details. It is constructed from snecked red sandstone rubble with polished dressings. The entrance front includes a two-bay advanced gabled center with a door that is recessed under a moulded pointed arch, featuring a good panelled door. The window reveals are chamfered and mainly consist of mullioned and transomed designs with shouldered heads, some of which have hoodmoulds. There is a lower wing to the north. The south elevation, facing the garden, has two irregular gabled bays, one of which includes a shallow advanced two-storey rectangular window projection. The roofs are gabled and covered with slate, featuring saw-toothed skews and tall paired moulded flues.
