Description
Kirkland Cottage, located at Kirkland Court, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. This two-storey, five-bay house was originally a pair of terraced houses and is constructed of painted rubble with painted raised margins. The first-floor lintels are positioned at eaves level.
On the east elevation, there are doors in the bays to the left and right of the centre, with windows on both floors in the centre bay and the outer left and right bays. The north elevation features a large window on the right side at the first floor, while the south elevation is blank. The west elevation has a lower addition with a later flat roof located at the centre and right of centre, along with a window to the left and flanking additions on both sides.
The cottage has sash and case windows on the east elevation, with two-pane glazing at the ground floor and four- and nine-pane glazing at the first floor. The roof has coped skews and rendered stacks, with gableheads on the north and south sides and a ridge between the bays at the centre and right of centre, all covered with grey slates.
Surrounding the property is a low painted rubble enclosing wall that is adjoined to the left and right of the east elevation.
