16 Brook Street, Alva

16 Brook Street in Alva is a house that dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is a two-storey building with a wide, three-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed coursed whinstone rubble, featuring raised ashlar margins, stone cills, ashlar rybats, strip quoins, a base course, and an eaves course.

The southeast, or principal elevation, is nearly symmetrical with four bays on the ground floor. There is a low doorway located off-centre to the right, with a window directly to the left and additional windows in the outer bays. On the first floor, three windows are positioned close to the eaves, and there are two cast-iron roof lights.

The northeast elevation features a doorway off-centre to the right and another to the far left, with a first-floor window at the far right. The northwest elevation, which was not visible in 2003, is adjacent to a large former printing works. The southwest elevation includes a one-storey rendered garage that adjoins the house at an angle.

All windows and doorways are boarded up. The roof is pitched and covered with grey slates, featuring straight ashlar skews. The interior was not seen in 2003.
