Description

The Sauchie War Memorial, built around 1925, is a war memorial made of sandstone ashlar. It features an octagonal shaft that stands on a tapered rectangular plinth with a stepped base. The shaft has a moulded base and a ledge supported by scrolled brackets at the top, which is topped by a crucifix and a crown, flanked by angels. The plinth has chamfered edges, and each of its main faces has a block pediment at the top with a bronze panel below. The southeast face is inscribed with the words: 'IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS DISTRICT WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE TWO WORLD WARS '1914-1919 ' - '1939-1945', with the names of the deceased listed below and on other panels. The panel on the southeast face was replaced after 1945, while the panels on the other sides are original. The dates of World War I and II are displayed on small panels at the base of the plinth on each side, with the World War I panels made of stone and the World War II panels made of bronze.
