65, 67, 69, 71, 73 Grassmarket is a four-storey, five-bay tenement block built in 1875 by David MacGibbon and Thomas Ross, with alterations and additions made by James Jerdan in 1889-90. The building features Scots Baronial details and originally housed shops on the ground floor, along with a depressed-arched pend known as Hunter's Close on the outer left. It is constructed from squared and snecked stugged sandstone with polished dressings.

Notable architectural features include moulded cill courses at the first and third floors, which are stepped between the windows at the first floor. The outer right side has a two-leaf timber panelled door set in a 17th century-style surround, dated 1889, with a relieving arch above it. The former shop windows are depressed-arched, and there are bracketed cornices above the first floor windows. The second floor windows have tabbed surrounds, while the crowstepped gables feature paired windows with a truncated corbelled stack between them. There is a bipartite window on the outer left and single windows above, with the third-floor window set in a finialled gablet that has a small corniced stack to the right.
