63 Grassmarket, Edinburgh

63 Grassmarket in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement block designed by David MacGibbon and Thomas Ross in 1875, with later alterations and additions by James Jerdan in 1889. The building features shops on the ground floor and a round-arched pend, known as Gilmour's Close, at the center. It is constructed of coursed ashlar with polished dressings, although the ground floor is painted.

Distinctive architectural details include a moulded cill course at the first and third floors, original shop fronts with shoulder-arched openings, and windows with corniced surrounds at the first floor. The second floor has tabbed windows, and paired windows are found in finialled gabled dormerheads, with a crowstepped gable to the right. Decorative panels in the gables are dated 1998 to the left. A centrally located wallhead stack is decoratively corbelled.

The building features four-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows and is topped with grey slates. The wallhead and ridge stacks are corniced and chamfered, adorned with decorative circular cans. At the rear, modern harled flats adjoin the building, accessible via Gilmour's Close.
