Description
85, 87, 89 Lothian Road in Edinburgh is a four-storey, five-bay plain classical terraced tenement designed by David MacGibbon in 1864. The building features coursed ashlar that is painted black at the first floor. It has a cornice above the shops on the ground floor, a cill course at the third floor level, and a moulded eaves cornice. The ground floor includes modern shop fronts and a modern door leading to the upper storeys located in the centre bay.
The windows on the first and second floors have lugged and bracketed surrounds, while the outer bays feature bipartite windows. The building has plate glass in timber sash and case windows. There is a shouldered wallhead stack with circular cans, along with corniced ridge stacks that also have circular cans.
