Lodge And Gate-Piers, Spylaw House, 25 Spylaw Street, Colinton, Edinburgh

The lodge at Spylaw House, located at 25 Spylaw Street in Colinton, Edinburgh, dates from around 1790 and features a modern extension at the rear. It is a plain single-storey building with three bays and a piended roof. The structure is constructed of random rubble, with droved ashlar used for the window and door dressings, which are painted. The south elevation has a central modern glazed timber door flanked by windows, while there are two additional windows on the west side, one of which has 16 panes. The southwest corner of the lodge is raised to serve as a gatepier for the footgate. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, and there is no chimney stack. The roof is covered with graded grey slate.

The gatepiers at the entrance to Spylaw Park are pyramidal capped and corniced. The entrance features two-leaf spear-headed cast-iron gates along with a plain cast-iron footgate.
