Description

21 and 23 Bridge Road is a detached house built in 1879, featuring two storeys and three bays. The building has bracketed eaves and bargeboarded dormers, with a former shop located on the ground floor. It is constructed from snecked rubble with stugged ashlar dressings and has long and short quoins. All openings have stop-chamfered corners. The central entrance consists of a two-leaf timber panelled door with brass door knobs, set in a shouldered surround. Flanking the entrance are large shop windows in shouldered openings, supported by a central cast-iron column glazing bar. Above the ground floor, elliptical-arched windows break the eaves, topped with decorative barge-boarded dormerheads. The gablehead stacks are slightly tapered.

The upper floor features timber sash and case windows with 4-pane glazing, while the ground floor has plate glass lights. The gables have plain bargeboards, and the stacks are coped with yellow clay cans. The roof is covered in graded grey slate, and the cast-iron rainwater goods include some decorative brackets on the downpipes.

In front of the house, there is a raised pavement with plain cast-iron railings and stone steps at each end. To the side, a battered boundary wall made of random rubble is topped with ashlar coping.
