St Georges School, Edinburgh

St George's School in Edinburgh was designed by A F Balfour Paul and built between 1911 and 1914. This Neo-Georgian school features an E-plan layout and has a large, nearly symmetrical south front. The facade includes a tall central section and forward-set ends, finished with harling and a base of polygonal masonry. The openings are unmargined, with some contrasting ashlar details, and there are large multi-paned sash windows. The eaves are blocked, and the building has slate roofs. It is primarily two storeys high, with a third storey squeezed into the ashlar centre of the inner block, which is set back behind a parapet. The main entrance is located at the foot of the building, and there are also some dormers. The west front features a variety of planes and includes two doors.
