Description
St George's School, built in 1803, is a two-storey building constructed from London Stock bricks with a projecting stone plinth and a slate roof. The central section features a Greek Doric loggia supported by stone columns and an entablature, which carries the upper storey that consists of 11 bays. This upper section is adorned with a modillioned stone cornice and a small stone parapet with coping. The parapet includes a raised central panel with the inscription "FOUNDED BY - TRAVERS ESQ ERECTED MDCCCIII."
Flanking the central section are two wings, each with three bays that share a similar design, including a modillioned cornice and a pediment that contains a stone oval with a coat of arms in the tympanum. The three ground floor windows are arched and set in arched yellow rubber recesses. The north elevation facing the road has three bays of similar design, flanked by one-storey walls featuring central stone doorways with architrave surrounds, a plain frieze with a projecting center, and small moulded cornices. The property also includes a large walled garden with fine trees. St George's School, along with Nos 7 and 8, forms a cohesive group.
