Description
Windsor Riverside Station and the Royal Waiting Room were built in 1851, designed by architect Sir William Tite. The station features red brick in a Tudor/Gothic style, accented with blue brick diapering that includes the date and Royal initials. It has a Bath stone finish and a slate roof. The central gable is topped with a tall finial, beneath which is a large four-light window. To the right of this window is a porch with three pointed arches, and to the left are two arches with depressed heads, one of which is now blocked and serves as a carriage entrance.
The southeast return wall curves alongside the platform and contains a series of arches with depressed heads, connecting the main station to the former Royal Waiting Room, which was built for Queen Victoria and is now disused. This smaller building consists of a main room and ante rooms, topped with a turret featuring a spirelet. The main room has Tudor arched windows and a canted bay with a pointed center, all adorned with stone dressings. Inside, the main room boasts a ribbed ceiling with a pendant finial.
