Description
The former St George's Church of England School, built in 1835 by William Grellier, is now divided into houses. This building features a brick structure with stone dressings and a slate roof, designed in a classical style. It is two storeys high and has a five-window range, with the outer bays advanced and topped by pediments supported by coupled giant Tuscan pilasters. All the windows have been renewed but remain in their original openings, with stone sills creating a continuous band in the central range at the first floor. There is a one-bay return to Chapel Street, which is also two storeys high and has two blind windows, with the former school rooms forming a lower wing beyond. The interior has been extensively altered during the conversion, including the addition of new ceilings.
