Description
St George's Day Centre, originally built as a school in 1847, is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed from coursed and squared stone and topped with slate roofs. It features a Jacobean style, highlighted by a Dutch gable facing the street. The central entrance has paired six-panelled doors set within a segmentally arched architrave, which is recessed in an outer architrave adorned with a flat entablature that displays 'Boys School' in raised letters.
On either side of the entrance are five-light mullioned and transomed windows with small panes. Above the doorway is an oriel window with strapwork on the parapet, flanked by paired two-light mullioned and transomed windows. The gable attic storey contains two-light mullioned windows on each side of the central oriel. All windows feature small panes, and there are continuous string courses between the storeys. A plaque in the gable is inscribed with 'A.D. 1847 St George's Schools'.
The truncated return elevation has a two-window range, with the original windows still visible in the upper storey. To the west, there is a three-storey single-window range that features low four-light mullioned windows with hoodmoulds on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
