Old Surgeon's Hall, Surgeon's Square, Drummond Street, Edinburgh

The Old Surgeon's Hall, located on Surgeon's Square in Drummond Street, Edinburgh, was designed by James Smith and completed in 1697, with significant additions made in the 19th century. This symmetrical, three-storey, four-bay building originally served as a Surgeon's Hall and is now used as offices. It features polygonal stair towers on the east and west sides, constructed of random rubble with raised ashlar margins.

The exterior includes a projecting base course, a band course, and a cill course at the first storey. The upper storeys have bipartite windows that are corniced at the first floor. The main entrance is marked by a central pedimented moulded doorpiece with a two-leaf timber door. At the rear, there is a central projecting stair tower with round-arched stair windows and a moulded doorpiece on the west side.

The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with some featuring a Gothic glazing pattern in the round-arched stair windows at the rear. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are cast iron rainwater goods and coped gable stacks.

The interior was comprehensively modernised as of 2007.
