Description
The Main Block of the Elsie Inglis Memorial Hospital, designed by H O Tarbolton and dated 1923, is an asymmetrical, roughly butterfly-plan, two and three-storey former maternity hospital that has been converted into a nursing home since 2007. The building features varying roof levels and is harled, with some areas of rock-faced coursed rubble at the ground level. It has an eaves course and includes some cat-slide dormers.
The entrance elevation faces northwest and features an advanced, off-centre double-height entrance porch with a Gambrel roof and a round-arched entrance opening. The entrance is marked by a two-leaf timber door with small round glass panels.
On the south elevation, there is an advanced, flat-roofed rock-faced arcade at the ground level, with a terrace roof above. The building predominantly has small-pane metal fixed and casement windows, although some non-traditional materials are present. The roofs are covered with variegated slates and have piended designs.
The interior was comprehensively modernised as of 2007.
