Description

The Artisan Bar, located at 35 and 36 London Road in Edinburgh, is a public house built in 1871 by the Edinburgh Co-operative Building Company, featuring a late 19th century bar front. This two-storey and attic building has a four-bay design and is situated at the gable end of a terrace. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, with a painted timber front for the public house.

The façade includes a continuous fascia and cornice, along with a basecourse. Fluted timber Ionic pilasters divide the bays, with paired pilasters at each end. The outer-right and centre-left bays feature arched doorways, with a two-leaf timber panelled door on the left and a modern glazed door on the right, both topped with leaded fanlights. The other bays have large arched windows with blind panels below. The upper storeys display regular fenestration. A hanging clock is mounted on a decorative wrought-iron bracket.

The roof is covered with grey slates and has ashlar coped skews, along with an apex stack featuring cylindrical cans. The windows of the public house have small-pane glazing, while the upper floors are fitted with sash and case windows featuring two and eight-pane glazing.
