41, 43, 45, 47, and 49 Montrose Terrace in Edinburgh is a plain classical block built around 1820. It has three storeys and an attic, with a central stair flanked by four-bay blocks. The ground floor features later shops, with the two central bays slightly recessed. The building is constructed of coursed ashlar and includes a band course, cill courses on the first and second floors, a string course on the second floor, an eaves course, and a blocking course. The façade is regularly fenestrated, with a later door to the flats that has a plate glass fanlight. To the right, there is a continuous cornice and fascia above the four-bay shop front, with Ionic pilasters separating the bays. The outer right side features a two-leaf timber-boarded storm door with a round-arched fanlight. The left side has modern shop fronts, and there are five timber dormers in the attic.

The windows predominantly have plate glass and four-pane glazing in timber sash and case styles. The roof is covered with grey slates and has ashlar coped skews. There are corniced ridge stacks with circular cans.
