Description

St Anne's Yard, located at 13 Croft-An-Righ, is a former brewery building dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is a rare example of such structures, featuring a substantial five-storey, nine-bay malthouse with an adjoining former kiln to the south. The kiln has a pyramidal roof and a tall timber ventilator, all situated within the yard site.

The malthouse section is constructed from squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings, including in-and-out quoins. Decorative cast-iron circular ties can be seen between the floors on the east and west elevations. The former kiln section is built of rubble with tooled cills at the openings on the upper level. The attached west section rises one storey higher than the square-plan kiln, which has a sharply angled southeast corner. There are two later timber porches on the south elevation, one with a pitched roof and the other with a lean-to roof.

The building features predominantly boarded timber casement openings with fixed pane upper lights, and some of the windows have timber shutters. The roof is covered with grey slate, and cast-iron rainwater goods are present.

Inside, the building has been refurbished for use as workshops. Some cast-iron supporting columns with winged capitals are also present.
