Public House, 14 Market Street, Edinburgh

This public house, located at 14 Market Street in Edinburgh, dates from around 1825 and has undergone later alterations and additions, including work by John Gershom Adams in 1899. It is a five-storey, seven-bay tenement with public houses on the ground floor. The building features ashlar stonework, which is painted on the ground and first floors. There are moulded string courses that separate the second and third floors, as well as the third and fourth floors, and a moulded cornice at the eaves. A pyramidally-roofed bartizan projects from the eaves on the outer left side. The public house on the right (No 17) has a late 19th-century pilastered front.

The ground and first floors have modern glazing, while the upper floors feature timber sash and case windows with four-pane glazing, some of which are blind. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are corniced ashlar stacks with circular cans.
