17 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh

17 Cockburn Street in Edinburgh is a three-storey and attic Scots Baronial tenement block designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear between 1859 and 1861. The building features a machicolated oriel that projects from the center at the second and attic floors, with a public house located on the ground floor. It is constructed from squared and snecked lightly stugged sandstone, with polished dressings that have been painted at the ground level.

Above the shop, there is a moulded corbel that steps over square rosette panels, and a moulded eaves course that includes a date panel inscribed with the year 1860. The ground floor has roll-moulded openings, while the upper floors feature stop-chamfered openings. The attic includes a small window in the oriel, topped with a segmental pediment that has carved initials (PK) in a finialled, kneelered gable. There are also two flanking dormers with decorative pediments.

The windows are timber sash and case, with two panes in the upper sections and four panes in the lower sections. The roof is covered with grey slates.
