Description
This building is a public house and tenement located at 11-13 Cockburn Street in Edinburgh, designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear between 1859 and 1861. It is a three-storey and attic structure featuring twin gables and a four-bay layout, with shops on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed of squared and snecked lightly stugged sandstone, accented with polished dressings, although the ground floor has been painted.
The building has a continuous cornice at the ground floor level, with moulded cill courses and stop-chamfered windows on the first and second floors. On the second floor, there are two stone-mullioned bipartite windows, and above them, the attic contains small windows. The gables are adorned with gabletted crowsteps and finials, along with bracketed skewputts. At the center of the attic, there is a small timber dormer with a finial.
The windows are made of plate glass set in timber sash and case frames, and the roof is covered with grey slates.
