Stills Gallery And Tenement, 23 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh

The Stills Gallery and Tenement, located at 23 Cockburn Street in Edinburgh, was designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear and built between 1859 and 1861. This three-storey, two-bay gabled tenement features an original shop front on the ground floor. It is constructed from squared and snecked lightly stugged sandstone with polished dressings, although the ground floor is painted.

A continuous cornice runs along the ground floor, and there is a moulded string course that connects to the neighbouring buildings, stepping up over the second-floor window and a date plaque that reads "1860." The ground floor has stop-chamfered roll-moulded openings, and the windows feature stop-chamfered surrounds. The crow-stepped gable is topped with a thistle finial and has a small wallhead stack on the right, which includes a carved monogram (PK).

The shop entrance consists of a two-leaf timber-panelled door with a glazed inner door. The ground floor is fitted with plate glass, while the upper floors have timber sash and case windows with two-pane upper and four-pane lower glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are corniced stacks with circular cans.
