Description
34 Cockburn Street is a tenement building designed by architects Peddie and Kinnear, constructed between 1859 and 1861. This three-storey, three-bay structure features a symmetrical design with a shop on the ground floor. The second floor is distinguished by three gabled dormer windows that break the eaves. The building is made of squared and snecked lightly stugged sandstone, with polished dressings that are painted at the ground level.
There is a continuous string course that runs between the ground and first floors, which connects to similar features on the adjacent elevations. The entrance includes a timber-panelled door with a plate glass fanlight to the right, and there is a recessed glazed door leading to the shop. The windows are timber sash and case style, featuring four-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a corniced end stack with circular windows.
