Kennels, Mortonhall House, Frogston Road East, Edinburgh

The building known as the Kennels at Mortonhall House, located on Frogston Road East in Edinburgh, dates from the earlier 19th century. It consists of a pair of single-storey, semi-detached T-plan cottages situated to the south of a walled garden, which were formerly used as kennels. The cottages are constructed of squared and snecked stugged rubble with ashlar dressings, while the sides and rear are finished in rubble. There are steps leading to the central doors, which feature letterbox fanlights, and flanking windows that have modern glazing. At the rear, the cottages have two-bay wings that project outward, each fitted with small-pane timber sash and case windows. The roofs are covered with graded grey slates and feature bracketed eaves and timber barge boards on the gable ends. The building has end and mutual ashlar stacks that are shouldered and corniced, complete with moulded cans.
