Description

The ice house at Mortonhall House, located on Frogston Road East in Edinburgh, dates back to the late 18th century. It features a doorway with an ashlar surround that leads into a circular domed chamber. This chamber is accessed through three stone corridors that have earth floors and a slab roof. Originally, the brick-lined chamber was illuminated by vents in the dome, but these are now obscured. The ice house is covered with earth and is situated in a pasture to the west of the main house.
