50, 52, 54 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh

50, 52, and 54 Candlemaker Row is an early 18th-century tenement building that was reconstructed by Ebenezer J McRae in 1930 and restored by Simpson and Brown in 1978. This three-storey, five-bay structure features shops on the ground floor and is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings. The ground floor bays are divided by pilasters and have a continuous fascia and cornice. There is a shop window on the outer right, and two narrow doors with two-pane fanlights are located in the second and third bays from the right. The first and second bays from the left contain a window and a timber panelled door for another shop.

The building has broad splayed rubble wallhead stacks positioned between the first and second bays from both the right and left. The rear features piend-roofed dormer-headed windows that break the eaves, along with a broad splayed wallhead stack on the left side. The windows are fitted with small-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames, and the roof is covered with grey slates. Stone skews and broad splayed corniced wallhead stacks with circular cans are present at both the front and rear of the building.
