Description

Leven Lodge is an early 19th century house with later additions and alterations, located at the corner of Straiton Place and Marlborough Street in Edinburgh. The building is two stories high and features a rectangular plan with a single-storey extension added to the southwest. The first floor is finished in finely droved, painted ashlar, while the ground floor has polished ashlar dressings. The side and rear elevations are harled and painted, and the building includes a base course, broad band course, cornice, and blocking course, along with aprons beneath the first-floor windows and slightly raised quoins.

On the northwest elevation facing Marlborough Street, there is a consoled and corniced doorpiece with a tablet above, featuring a deep-set modern door and a plate glass fanlight. Above this, there is a window at the first floor in the third bay to the right, with windows in each remaining bay on both floors.

The northeast elevation facing Straiton Place is irregularly arranged, with blinded windows on each floor of the central bay. The name of the house is painted in the upper section of the first-floor blinded window, although it is now faded. There are windows in each floor of the flanking bays.

The southwest rear elevation has windows on the ground and first floor in the bay to the right of centre. The building features 12-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate piended roof, and a lean-to slate roof on the extension. There are painted and coped stacks on each elevation, except for the northwest.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1994. The boundary walls are heightened and harled, with a painted finish.
