1 and 3 South Fort Street and 95 Ferry Road, Edinburgh

This building, located at 1 and 3 South Fort Street and 95 Ferry Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1815 and is a two-storey attic and basement classical corner tenement. It features cleaned cream droved ashlar sandstone with polished dressings, rusticated at the ground level, and includes a base course and a band course above, as well as a cill course to the first floor. The building has a regular arrangement of windows.

On the west elevation facing South Fort Street, there are five bays. Steps lead to a deep-set door at the center, which has a diamond-pane fanlight that oversails the basement recess. The first-floor windows have fluted aprons, and there is a dentilled cornice along with a blocking course that features a blank central tablet. The basement also has five bays with a door located to the center right, and there are Velux skylights present.

The north elevation facing Ferry Road has a three-bay gable with steps leading to a door at the center, which is set in a blind round-headed frame. The attic windows in the gablehead have a cill course. The basement here also consists of three bays.

The building features plate glass timber sash and case glazing, with casements on the gable. The roof is covered with grey slates and has coped ashlar apex stacks and ashlar coped skews.

The steps leading to the entrances are made of ashlar, and there is a saddleback base for plain cast-iron railings, which have an arrowhead design on South Fort Street.
