Description

1, 3, 5, and 7 Pitt Street in Leith, Edinburgh, is an early 19th-century, three-storey and basement, five-bay classical corner tenement. The building is constructed from cream sandstone, featuring rusticated stonework at the ground level, droved stone on the basement and upper floors, and polished dressings. It has a base course, a band course above the rustication, a cill course at the first floor, and a cornice with a blocking course. The windows are regularly spaced and include rectangular sunburst fanlights.

On the south elevation facing Pitt Street, there are steps leading to a panelled tenement door at the centre, with a flush-panelled main door located in the right bay. The west elevation facing Newhaven Road has four bays, with the right bays of the upper floors featuring blind windows. A shouldered wallhead stack is positioned on the raised parapet at the centre.

The rear elevation is constructed of rubble. The windows are timber sash and case, with plate glass in the basement and ground floors, 12-pane windows on the first floor, and 4-pane windows on the second floor. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, featuring coped rendered stacks.

Additionally, there are cast-iron spearhead railings on a saddleback ashlar base leading to the steps and basement area.
