2, 4, 12, 14 Hart Street, Edinburgh

This building, located at 2, 4, 12, and 14 Hart Street in Edinburgh, dates back to 1808. It is a two-storey, 18-bay terrace of three stepped classical tenements, featuring a slate-hung addition to the upper storey and a basement. The exterior is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with a rusticated finish at the ground level, droved stone at the first floor, and coursed rubble on the sides. Notable architectural details include a base course, a band course between the floors, a cill band at the first floor, corniced eaves, and ashlar steps with entrance platts that overhang the basement.

On the principal elevation, there are timber panelled doors with fanlights located in the 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 17th bays, with windows remaining in the other bays. The fenestration is regular on both floors above. The side elevation features windows at the first floor to the left of centre, with two additional windows to the right and left of centre.

The building has timber sash and case windows with plate glass and 12-pane glazing, grey slate roofing, gablehead stacks with terracotta cans, and finialled cast iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
