Description
7 Hart Street in Edinburgh is a two-storey terrace of three classical tenements built in 1808 by Robert and Henry Paterson. The terrace features 19 bays arranged in a stepped formation of 7-6-6, with a slate-hung upper storey on Nos 11 and 13, as well as an attic and basement. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with a rusticated ground floor, droved first floor, and coursed rubble on the sides. Notable architectural details include a base course, a band course between the floors, a cill band at the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance features ashlar steps and platts that oversail the basement.
On the west (principal) elevation, there are timber panelled doors with fanlights located in the 1st, 5th, 11th, and 17th bays, with windows in the remaining bays. The upper section has regular fenestration, with seven windows under the slate-hung roof. There are two piended and canted tripartite dormers for No 9, four piended and canted dormers for No 7, one single dormer to the left, and a tripartite dormer to the right.
The north (side) elevation features windows at the first floor and attic. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass and 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are gablehead stacks with terracotta cans, along with finialled cast-iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
