Description
12 Forth Street in Edinburgh is a classical tenement building designed by Robert Burn in 1800. It is a two-storey structure with a basement and attic, featuring three bays and situated at the end of a terrace. The building is constructed from droved sandstone ashlar, with coursed rubble on the sides. Notable architectural details include a band course between the floors, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance is highlighted by a paired pilastered and corniced doorpiece, with entrance platts that oversail the basement.
On the south elevation, there are timber panelled doors that are deeply recessed, accompanied by round-arched fanlights within the paired doorpiece, which has decorative capitals. The remaining bays contain windows, and the upper section features regular fenestration with two piended and canted dormers.
The west side elevation has a blank gable wall. The building includes timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, small-pane windows in the dormers, and is topped with grey slates. It has skews and gablehead stacks with terracotta cans, along with decorative cast-iron railings.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
