Description
Radio Forth, located at 13, 15, and 17 Forth Street in Edinburgh, is a classical tenement building designed by Robert Burn in 1800, with some alterations made in the 20th century. This three-storey building, with a basement, features a palace-fronted design and is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with rustication on the ground floor. The outer two bays of the building are slightly advanced, and there are band courses above the ground floor and between the first and second floors, along with a cill band at the first floor and an eaves cornice. The central bays are adorned with rosetted capitals on panelled giant pilasters, and the entrance platts extend over the basement.
The principal elevation is organized in a pattern of 2-1-3-1-2 bays. The central entrance is round-arched and includes a tripartite doorpiece with a fanlight and sidelights. The flanking centre bays feature windows set in round-arched recesses. The remaining bays have regular fenestration, with smaller windows on the second floor.
The building has timber sash and case windows, with 12-pane glazing on the main floors and 6-pane glazing on the second floor. The roof has been redesigned and is covered with grey slates, featuring rooflights and decorative cast-iron railings.
The interior was not seen in 1998, but it has undergone alterations to accommodate the radio station.
