22 Pilrig Street, Edinburgh

22 Pilrig Street is a classical terrace building from 1821, featuring two storeys with a basement and attic, and comprising twelve bays arranged into four three-bay houses. The exterior is made of sandstone ashlar, with rustication at the ground level. It includes a base course, a band course between the floors, projecting cills at the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance features ashlar steps and platforms that overhang the basement.

The principal elevation has round-arched entrances with fanlights located in the third, fourth, ninth, and tenth bays, and deep-set doors. The remaining bays contain regular fenestration above, with a piended tripartite dormer for No 22, a piended and canted dormer for No 24, and a piended bipartite dormer for No 26, along with rooflights.

The windows are timber sash and case with mostly plate glass glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates and features ashlar ridge stacks with terracotta cans and coped skews.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The boundary walls are low rubble with ashlar copes, and some original cast-iron railings are still present.
