7 Pilrig Street, Edinburgh

9 Pilrig Street is an early 19th-century pair of two-storey and attic, three-bay townhouses with a basement, which are part of a terrace of five. The houses feature a cream sandstone façade with droved ashlar and polished dressings, while the basement and northwest elevation are made of coursed and squared rubble, with the rear also in coursed rubble. There is a band course above the basement, and the ground floor windows are architraved and corniced. The eaves cornice is dentilled, and there is a blocking course at the top.

The southwest (front) elevation is symmetrical, with doorways in the centre bays accessed by steps that extend over the basement. These doorways have pilastered doorpieces, panelled doors, and rectangular plate glass fanlights. Above, there are single windows on the first floor, with single windows in the remaining bays. The dormers include a single and bipartite rectangular dormer for No 7, and a tripartite canted dormer for No 9.

The northwest (Arthur Street) elevation has a gabled roof with an apex stack, small windows in the basement, and blocked windows in the outer bays above. The northeast (rear) elevation features single windows with wallhead stacks and various dormers.

The windows are timber sash and case, with plate glass glazing for No 9 and 12-pane windows for No 7. The roof is slate with lead flashings, and there is a mutual coped stack at the apex.

The property includes a low boundary wall at the front with flat coping and plain railings along the wall and steps. The interior was not seen in 1993.
