Gate Piers With Railings And Boundary Wall, East Lodge, Cammo House, Edinburgh

The gate piers with railings and boundary wall at East Lodge, Cammo House in Edinburgh date from the late 18th century. They feature four square-plan polished ashlar piers that are symmetrically arranged, with wrought-iron gates at the center. On either side, there are low coped coursed sandstone walls. The boundary wall along Cammo Road is made of random rubble.

The gate piers consist of a raised base course, a string course, and a fluted frieze on the northwest facets, topped with a stepped cornice and pyramidal caps. Iron railings are positioned between the outer piers, and there are two down-swept iron gates in the center.

The boundary wall has droved coping and forms a quadrant wall beyond the gates leading to Cammo Road. Low coursed sandstone piers with a projecting cornice and stepped, layered caps flank the entrance.
