Description

East Lodge at Cammo House in Edinburgh was built in 1789 and underwent significant alterations in the 19th century, with a restoration completed in 1992. This single-storey, three-bay gate lodge features a recessed single bay wing on the right and a canted bay on the left. It has been converted into a visitor centre for Cammo House. The exterior is made of squared and coursed yellow sandstone, with droved quoins and lightly droved raised ashlar dressings. A polished ashlar moulded cornice runs beneath the eaves, and there are projecting cills. The rear and east elevations have a random rubble finish.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a timber panelled door centered in the west wing, with a raised surround and "C W 1789" engraved in the lintel, flanked by oval rosettes. There are single windows at ground level flanking the entrance, and another single window in the recessed bay to the outer right. The southwest (side) elevation features a three-light canted window in the central bay. The northwest (rear) elevation has single windows in the bays to the outer left and right.

All openings have 2-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a piended design, with replacement rainwater goods. The interior has been recently redecorated, with most of the work being new but respecting the original design.
