Description

1800 with 19th century alterations. Rubble harbour comprising breakwater and lighthouse, pier and slipway, built to serve and protect the sea-lock entrance to the Crinan Canal at Ardrishaig.

BREAKWATER: (Map Ref: NR 85387, 85267) Added circa 1817, curving 50 metre extension to south breakwater. Rubble with parapet wall to south. Steps cut in to north and south sides. LIGHT HOUSE: (Map Ref: NR 85467, 85308) Circa 1878, Cylindrical stone tower to end of south breakwater. Bull-nosed banding at top. Steel circular-section lantern with triangular panes of curved glass. Conical roof with ventilator. Cast-iron brackets above and below glazing on S side of lantern. PIER: (Map Ref: NR 185384, 685386) AND SLIPWAY: (Map Ref: NR 185346, 685431) Circa 1837, whinstone rubble pier and rubble slipway additions to north side of harbour with later, concrete scree surface. Rubble slipway shelves into water. The pier has a timber pile extension, added circa 1878.
