Pier, Ardrishaig Harbour

Breakwater at Ardrishaig is a harbour structure built in 1800, with 19th century alterations. It includes a breakwater and lighthouse, as well as a pier and slipway, designed to serve and protect the sea-lock entrance to the Crinan Canal.

The breakwater, added around 1817, features a 50-metre curving extension to the south, constructed of rubble with a parapet wall on the south side. Steps are cut into both the north and south sides. The lighthouse, built circa 1878, is a cylindrical stone tower located at the end of the south breakwater. It has bull-nosed banding at the top and a steel circular-section lantern with triangular panes of curved glass. The lantern is topped with a conical roof that includes a ventilator, and there are cast-iron brackets above and below the glazing on the south side of the lantern.

The pier and slipway, added around 1837, are made of whinstone rubble on the north side of the harbour, featuring a later concrete scree surface. The rubble slipway shelves into the water, and the pier has a timber pile extension that was added around 1878.
