Description

This building, located at 74, 76, and 78 King Street East in Helensburgh, dates back to 1863. It is a two-storey, three-bay villa constructed from stugged, snecked sandstone rubble on the northern elevation, with squared and coursed stonework and ashlar dressings. The villa features a battered base course, window margins, chamfered arises, roll-moulded cills, and a doorway and windows on the first floor of the northern elevation that are adorned with cornices and strapwork decoration. The first floor also has round-arched windows. The gables are decorated with bargeboards, including a particularly ornate bargeboard on the left gable of the northern elevation, and there are quoin strips present.

On the northern (entrance) elevation, the central doorway has a date panel above it, with a gable dormer window breaking the eaves above. Taller gable bays flank the entrance, featuring canted windows at the ground level and bipartite windows on the first floor. The eastern elevation has a gable bay that breaks the eaves at the center, with a doorway at ground level and a window above it on the first floor, along with flanking windows at ground level. The western elevation is a mirror image of the eastern elevation.

The villa is fitted with four-pane and plate glass sash and case windows. It has a grey slate roof with corniced sandstone gablehead stacks, some of which are rendered.
