Description
68 and 69 Marine Road in Port Bannatyne is an early 19th-century, symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay plain classical house that forms the end of a terrace. The building has been subdivided and is entered from the front at No 68 and the rear at No 69. It features painted rubble sandstone with raised, painted margins, a painted base course, and a raised lintel course beneath moulded eaves. The structure includes rubble quoins, droved long and short surrounds to openings, and a pilastered entrance. The side is finished with harl-pointed random rubble sandstone.
On the northeast elevation facing Marine Road, there is a timber panelled door centered at the ground level, topped by an 8-pane fanlight. The doorpiece includes flanking pilasters, a plain frieze, a cornice, and a block pediment. There is a blind opening aligned at the first floor with narrow side-lights on either side. Single windows are present on both floors in the outer left and right bays, featuring 4-pane upper and 6-pane lower timber sash and case glazing. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has replacement rainwater goods. A corniced ridge stack is located to the southeast, along with various circular cans, and there is a replacement brick stack to the northwest.
The interior was not seen in 1996.
