Saltire Place, 43 Castle Street, Port Bannatyne

Saltire Place, located at 41 Castle Street in Port Bannatyne, is a pair of nearly symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay plain classical cottages that date from the late 18th to early 19th century and were refurbished in 1987. These cottages form a six-bay terrace and are flatted, featuring exterior stairs at the rear and a lean-to garage addition on the outer left.

The northeast elevation facing Castle Street has boarded timber doors in the penultimate bays on the outer left and right, serving as mutual entrances. There are single windows aligned on the first floor, with regular fenestration on both floors in the remaining bays to the left and right. The lean-to addition on the outer left has boarded timber garage doors.

On the southwest rear elevation, exterior stairs are offset to the left and right of the center, featuring decorative cast-iron balustrades and stone treads. The first-floor porches have piended roofs and replacement part-glazed timber doors. There are regularly disposed single windows in the remaining bays on both floors.

The front features replacement 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the rear has 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, along with various skylights. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, while the lean-to addition has a corrugated-iron roof and replacement rainwater goods. The building has coped ridge and apex stacks, with various circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1996.
